The Jinx Factor

There are times you expect people to be upfront with you about their plans, people you feel are very close to you who shouldn’t be hiding stuff but are actually coding their activities. Sometimes it upsets you and makes you question if such people really value your friendship and honesty.

Most times such queer behavior stems from the belief that telling the next person about your plans kind of jinxes it for you. Take for instance, remember when i gave you  reasons why Kerry Washingtonmay have been attracted to her Nigerian Beau?  Everyone woke up one day and found out she was married without the usual pomp. here’s her reasons for keeping her affair under wraps:

"I learned through experience that it doesn't work for me to talk about my personal life. I've had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. But I couldn't just turn around and say, 'I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.' so I just thought, 'OK, no more.'"
I'm going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold.".The point is to do what's best for me. I have girlfriends in this business who talk about their personal lives, and it works for them, and I love it. But not for me."

What works for you? Are you the excited type who tells whoever cares to listen about your love life, work, business and projects? Or do you prefer coding until the final moment? Have you ever thought something didn't work out for you because you told someone?

What works best for you and why?

  1. I think its best to keep things to yourself until it shows forth, the bible says the heart of man is wicked, who knows it? You might be telling the wrong person! JEMA

  3. It all depends, actually... I believe in taking people the way they take me. If someone always takes me into confidence, I see no reason why I should code stuff for that person..

  4. Different strokes for different folks. Truth is, "que sera sera". Its sheer superstition. For me though, the things that work the most are the things I didn't plan for or talk about, but I dont attribute the coincidence to any jinx.
