What Every Adult Should Know # Etiquette 101

I grew up in a home where it didn't matter what plate or cutlery  you were eating with or even where you were eating and because of that i lacked that basic etiquette, neither did i learn to use a cutlery set properly until my boss called in a company that handles such things to teach the staff during one of our management meetings.

Despite all that polishing, i still never got the chance to learn how to set a table until this morning when i glanced through Leke Alder's time line on twitter and saw this diagram and to say i'm thrilled would be an understatement.

So to the pako/kpako kids like me who grew up without learning this, here's a diagram to help you and to all mothers, here's a chance to put your kids in the know.

The Perfect Dinner Table

It's not just for the girls, every guy should know how to set a table too, especially in our present system where roles have been mainstreamed.

  1. Who gives a shit? I eat my food on my bed...sometimes while taking a dump! What in the world do I need a table for?lol biko, that's not our culture jor. The food you eat determines the cutlery you use... Eba still tastes better with my washed hands, thank you.

  3. As much as I gree up in posh surroundings and travelled abroad, I still believe that African foods should be eaten in the traditional way and we should stop copying everything western all in the name of trying to be 'civilised'.

    1. Would you also use your hands to eat rice, yam, beans and plantain? Will you also use your hands to scop desserts? I feel everyone should have the basic foundation then you can decide what to use or not to use later. Then it will be a matter of choice, not that you're totally ignorant

  4. nice, but I love eating my food with spoon. I remember having a lunch treat at Protea Ikeja, I just packed all those forks and knife one side and enjoyed my meal with the lovely spoon..I was bush but at least,I saved myself the misery I saw on some people who tried to use their knife to cut everything before picking it with the 'ferk'!
