Old Wines Are More Tasty.... #ChildNotBride

For days, the country has been hot due to the Senate’s plan to legalize Child Brides; millions of Nigerians showed their displeasure on social media and even went as far as setting up centers all over the country encouraging everyone to show up append their signatures to a petition needed to counter the move.

And like all trending issues, sides were taken with our Muslim brothers and sisters being on the defensive. The general consensus has been that the idea of Child Brides is being championed by Northern Senators who are basing their position on the tenets of Islam. Does Islam really encourage the notion of Child Brides?

I read an article supposedly written by an Islamic scholar who maintained that Prophet never married an under aged girl but rather the narrator distorted the story. Was the narrator right or wrong? Was the information distorted? Click here to read what he has to say and draw your own conclusions.

Also note that like all religions, people tend to interpret it the way it suits their purposes, it’s not just about Islam, it cuts across religions. I’ve always stressed on this blog that people make subjective interpretations of holy books.

Like Aids, Pedophilia no dey show for face, you can never detect who is, it has no particular religion but rather has a common creed which in my opinion translates to “ small ones are more juicy” and it boils down to personal preference. Just like you and I have a preference when it comes to the opposite sex, pedophiles have their preference too and it’s just unfortunate that they can actually hide behind a religion to get what they want and believe me these crop of people do not speak the minds of most northerners, I believe there are northerners who would frown against this act. Would they speak up? I honestly don’t know.

We have 34 senators who voted “Aye”? How many voted “Nay”? How many sat on the fence? Should anyone be even sitting on the fence on this crucial matter? Are these the same crop of people who fought against homosexuality? What has changed since then? Is there a huge gap between Paedophila and homosexuality?

If you ask me, the #ChildNotBride movement is a class action against a group of people who like I said earlier are hiding behind religion to do what they like.

An underaged girl is like an unripe orange or immature wine, it has not grown to its full potential and nutritive value and only a mentally ill person would prefer that over an extra matured wine. Everyone knows the joy of having an extra matured woman and to stress how much she's appreciated, the Yorubas call her “Obirin Agbalagba” while the Igbos call her “ Nwa Agbogho Kajara-Akaja and if someone would actually choose an underaged over her, then you do the math and tell me if something is not wrong here.

    Very true. Some members of the senate have buried their heads in the sand over this issue. Considering they're too cowardly to commit suicide, I await the awkward moment when they eventually rear their shameless heads as they gasp for breath. We'd be waiting.

    There's no time a woman is more desirable than when she hits her mid 20s all the way through her late 40s so there's 20 odd yrs of absolute pleasure, fun, intrigue, hurt and drama,...which in truth is the essence of being in a relationship. Let's ensure our girls under 20 get the best education and protection to prepare them for the "long and winding road" that is living in a relationship with the intention to raise a family.

  2. Its so pathetic that the southerners who are fighting this cause are not the ones as affected. This goes to show how much we are building our beloved nation. The northerners who are the most affected have voiceless women and mindless leaders. Their leaders want to continue enslaving them, as if it isn't bad enough for them to say education is evil now they've gone further to legislate perversion!!!!
    Again, why would just one man continue to make a fool of all of us? Can't he be recalled from the senate??
    So disheartening

  3. Lol @ 'obinrin agbalagba'

  4. In my understanding this whole #ChildNotBride brouhaha, the Senate never deliberated on female marriage age, rather they were deliberating on Citizenship (Chapter 3, Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 constitution. The vote they took was for whether the clause should be amended or it should remain as it is. It is the media & some twisted minded individuals with penchant for anarchy and unrest that came up with the entire idea that the Nigerian Senate has voted to peg female marriage age to minimum of 13years. The videos of the deliberation are available on youtube.

    Our youths, who happens to be the bulk of the social media users are lazy when it comes to reading & researching. I strongly feel it is the duty of the media to report accordingly instead of inciting divides. The need for our youths not to carry last on the social media has led many of them to following popular hashtags without necessarily knowing what it connotes.

    Please see the section of the constitution below

    The Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigerian Section 29 states;
    (1) Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation.

    (2) The President shall cause the declaration made under subsection (1) of this section to be registered and upon such registration, the person who made the declaration shall cease to be a citizen of Nigeria.

    (3) The President may withhold the registration of any declaration made under subsection (1) of this section if-

    (a) the declaration is made during any war in which Nigeria is physically involved; or

    (b) in his opinion, it is otherwise contrary to public policy.

    (4) For the purposes of subsection (1) of this section.

    (a) "full age" means the age of eighteen years and above;

    (b) any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age.

    The subsection 4 (a & b)has raised an issue.

    Please how does renunciation of Citizenship relates with Early marriage of female child or "Paedophile" as been speculated by the media, because from my understanding on this section of the constitution, it is just giving conditions about renunciation of Nigerian citizenship.

    I want those who understand this better to break it down please:

    1. And I'm still asking why the senator decided to defend himself and even added that it was nobody's business if he gave out his daughter at 6!!! Some set of people are not saying it ALL

  5. "Agbogho tozuru e tozu", "Obirin agbalagba"or "Mace".... either way, a matured fruit is always tastier than an unmature one. Ripe fruits taste better. Let us allow our girls to grow up before they marry. No holy book support it... Say NO to childbrides....... Always Aunty Nnenna.
