Is The Iyaloja Position Hereditary In Lagos?

I stumbled on this piece today and thought to share with you guys.

Tinubu

"Tinubu pronounces daughter new Iyaloja of Lagos The culture of imposition in Lagos continued yesterday as Alhaji Bola Tinubu pronounced his daughter,Folashade Tinubu-Ojo the new President General of market men and women in Lagos. The coronation took place at the 7th day prayer held by leaders of the Market Association for the late Abibatu Mogaji at her Sunday Adigun residence in Ikeja,Lagos.Tinubu who interrupted the prayer sessions to make the decree first told the market leaders that the house where Mogaji lived and died has been willed to the association. Before the applause that followed could die down he went to the next item" " I also want to announce to you that the new Iyaloja of Lagos is Folashade Tinubu-ojo.We are in a new era.Besides,Mama was not older than her age when she became Iyaloja" By this time Sade was on her feet dancing with the father handing her envelopes filled with cash to distribute to the Alfas. The market leaders dispersed with mixed feelings as they meet on Tuesday to review the coup Tinubu hatched. It would be recalled that Tinubu wife, Oluremi is currently a Sentor in Lagos while her sister is a member of Lagos Assembly. The husband of Sade who has just been installed Iyaloja is a member of the House of Reps.Tinubu is indeed Lagos!Eko o ni baje ju bayii lo"

I had to look up Sade's profile after reading the above and i'm not surprised she got this position considering she was the Deputy Chairman of the Lagos State Market Development Board prior to now. Obviously, her father has been grooming her for this very position and i believe any smart politicking Lagosian should have seen it coming.

Whether she is qualified and the right person to fill that position will be a topic for another day so i'm waiting for the outcome of Tuesday's meeting. For now, i'll assume the position is hereditary since she's filling the big shoes her Grannie left behind.

  1. If it is hereditary shouldn't it be the late woman's daughter before her grand daughter?
    Just asking!

  2. I am only amazed @ the announcement. You are waiting on a 'long thing'.The meeting is only for ratification.Just be ready to buy aso-ebi and maybe another market closure. So, tell me, what moral right has he to accuse Jona of imposing Jang on the Governors? He has Lagos in his pocket, take it or leave it. And very soon, expect him to announce you as the President of Bloogers Association of Nigeria(BAN). Progressive my foot.

I already know they can't do anything, I believe they've been getting favours over the years so they sold their rights without knowing. They even got a house sef lol! As for BAN, abeg I still be apprentice, carry give Omojuwa or Linda

  3. But it's no longer news that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu owns Lagos and calls the shots in Lagos. Asiwaju can decide to make anything he so desires hereditary, even making an Igbo or Hausa man the Oba Of Lagos. Will all this last?, that's the petinenet question
